Where do you typically purchase fruits and vegetables in your community?
People who have access to fresh fruits and vegetables eat them more often and are healthier for it, having lower rates of obesity, diabetes and other diet-related diseases. Unfortunately, many North Carolinians have limited access to fresh produce in their community.
My Harris Teeter has a really good selection of fruits and vegetables for a good price -- I find it easy to feed my family well.
I grow my own vegatables but purchase my fruit at the grocery store. So none of the answers were entirely appropriate for me. Oh well.
This question is poorly worded as "specialty grocery store" is included in both options A & D. Option A should probably read "Large chain grocery store or food outlet" and Option D should read "Health food store or specialty grocery store". Although even with that wording, I'm not sure where "Whole Foods" would belong...
I have my own garden. I also go to Harris Teeter. The farmers market downtown Durham on Sat. morning is a great experience. It is fun to talk to the people who actually grow the food you eat.
Shout out to Wal-Mart who plans to bring the cost of fruits and veggies down as well. I hope they buy from local farmers when avail.
There are a couple of companies out there that will deliver local produce directly to your door. (The Produce Box & Papa Spuds). Great in the summer when fruit is in season.
It depends on the season as I grow my own garden. I try to rely on my canned and frozen garden items, but if needed I go to the a local grocrie store.
I would LOVE to grow my own fruits and veggies when I buy a house. Our neighborhood is trying to get a community garden soon which seems to be the trend. I usually purchase organic at TJ's since its convenient.
Walmart and Lowes Foods have the least expensive and biggest variety of organic foods. Safer foods for everyone especially children.
Maybe they could add functionality to allow multiple responses or None of the Above. In this case 'survey' it might not be as applicable, but in others I have not been able to make a selection.
I buy local - from the farmer's market - it supports the community, and the veggies and fruits are more fresh.
Why is organic more expensive??? If pestiscides aren't used, shouldn't it be cheaper to grow? Less products = higher price???
The Produce Box is a great service, I can't wait for this year's boxes to begin! Last year was our first year receiving weekly boxes & it greatly changed the way our family eats.
I wish there was a choice for local co-ops on the survey. Kim-- thanks for the link to Papa Spuds!
I go to the State Farmers Market for locally grown produce, dairy and meat. It is always at a fair price and very high quality. And if you like steak, there is none better!
If you are looking for a large variety and very low prices, I go to Grand Asia Supermarket in Cary, NC. It truly is a grocery store and the prices are SUPER LOW and the selections are incredible! Plus, they have the largest variety of fresh fish in the triangle.
In the summer, we have a garden, so those veggies are the best, but usually we get them at the big box grocery. I'd like more information on farmer's markets in our area, their dates and times, etc. I think BCBS should work with Got To Be NC to get all it's customers eating more locally.
Walmart has the best prices, but for some of the summer fruits the farmer's market is the best place!
We have a shortage of whole foods stores here in Franklin County. We need a Trader Joe's or a Whole Foods. Walmart isn't the healthiest place to buy groceries!
