It's important to exercise your mind (and, of course, your body), and I've found that avoiding doing so can actually slow down your mind—a lot! And I'm only one year out of school, so I can't imagine how people who are older than me can keep sharp without exercising the brain on a regular basis. I actually bought a precalculus textbook and have been working my way through that for a few weeks now. I could feel the mental improvement almost immediately! It felt really good, to be quite honest.

An article from the Mayo Clinic states that for most people only 30% of muscle mass that is lost as we age is actually from age. The other 70% is from lack of activity. Don't use your age as an excuse for slowing down on your exercise.

I think keeping active is important, but I think that how we treat our bodies when we're young (how we eat and exercise) has a lot to do with how we age

Read the book, Younger Next Year- no matter how old you are. I thought I was excessive exercising every day until I read that book. It shoots the 20min 3x a week theory out the door. I get sick about once every 3 years. Save some money - forget the gym and use the free-great outdoors as your gym. You'll never get bored.
