Great idea! I have seen these wind farms in other states. They look fine and leave a very small environmental footprint.
I'd support wind farms if they were more cost effective and didn't detract from natural beauty. One wind turbine cost thousands of dollars, so to put in one wind farm it will cost NC tax payers millions if not billions of dollars. Plus each wind turbine really does not produce that much energy (do your research), so we would still need other more reliable energy sources to run all the TVs, lights, and air conditioners people run. Not to mention that the speed of the wind is a factor, to much wind can do damage to the turbine and to little wind also affects the turbines. They do best with a constant wind speed, therefore wind turbines it would actually be better on top of the mountains, as the wind is a more steady speed than in coastal NC, where it varies hour by hour. This of course brings up the impact on the natural environment and the tourism industry, as I think these things are huge and will detract from the natural beauty of the area. Travel through Western NY to see what I am talking about.
